Laser Mapping Specialists Inc. Submits Letter of Intent for ALTM 3100
Raymond, MS, November 1, 2005– Optech Incorporated, the global market leader in the development and manufacture of laser-based survey instruments, is pleased to announce that Laser Mapping Specialists Inc. have placed a letter of intent to purchase an ALTM 3100 Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper.
With shot-to-shot elevation accuracy better than 5 cm*, pulse repetition rates as high as 100 kHz, adjustable scan angle, scan frequency and pulse repetition frequency, multiple digital imaging applications and platform independent operation, the ALTM 3100 provides all Optech’s clients with the most advanced airborne laser scanning system in the world.
Mike Smallwood, Optech’s Eastern USA Regional Sales Manager, says, "LMSI has a history of providing high-quality lidar data collection and processing services to a wide range of engineering and mapping companies. We are pleased that their search for the very latest in lidar technology systems has led them to the ALTM 3100 and the Rollei digital camera solution. We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with LMSI."
The principals at LMSI have been working with Optech lidar systems since the first 2-kHz system came out over 10 years ago. Since then, they have worked with the Optech 5-kHz, 25-kHz and 33-kHz systems. “We are very excited about the opportunities the new ALTM 3100 100-kHz lidar system will provide in both terrain resolution and data collection efficiency”, says Robbie Robinson from LMSI. “In today’s highly competitive marketplace, the new ALTM 3100 will provide our clients with a cost effective mapping solution without sacrificing resolution (point density) or data quality.”
The intent to purchase an ALTM 3100 will solidify LMSI’s position at the forefront of airborne laser mapping in the United States, and continue Optech’s tradition of making superior airborne laser scanners.

About Laser Mapping Specialists Inc.
Laser Mapping Specialists Inc. (LMSI) is one of the premier providers of airborne laser mapping in the United States. LMSI is a woman-owned small business founded in 1998 by a staff that pioneered the commercial use of Optech’s ALTM system over ten years ago. LMSI has specialized in high accuracy lidar surveys for engineering planning and design and routinely achieves 3-5 cm accuracy on large area lidar DTMs (digital terrain models) as compared to ground control surveys. Their usual lidar delivery is 1’ and 2’ contour mapping, DTMs, DEMs, FEMA flood plain surveys (typical 7-9 cm accuracy) and orthorectified digital color photography and animated 3D fly-throughs. They have provided high accuracy lidar mapping for projects from a few hundred acres to thousands of square miles.
